SQL DEVELOPER - LONDON

SQL Developer

About You:

The key skillset is T-SQL on the Microsoft SQL Server stack. We are looking for candidates with between 1 and 30 years of SQL experience.

Experience in either SSIS or SSAS is an advantage, but using those tools makes up only about 5% of the job. Most of the role is T-SQL based. No C#, C++ or Java required.

You’ll probably think of yourself as a software engineer or developer. If you only get out of bed for BI reporting or Data Science, it’s probably not a good fit.

Alongside being adept at SQL Server, you should be confident understanding technical issues that could stem from overloaded infrastructure, creaky code, or a user training issue and communicating verbally and in-writing with non-technical stakeholders both inside Exceedra, and directly to external clients.

Our environment is best suited to self-starters who are happy to work under their own steam. You’ll be expected to get on with delivering a project, and shout for help if required, rather than being chased daily for updates and micro-managed. This also gives you the freedom to tackle things as you see best. We’re focused on results over box-ticking.

What You Can Expect:

A typical project will see you working to implement our software in a small team alongside a business analyst who internally represents the client and a project manager who keeps things on track.

Our software is developed in-house by our R&D team, so the day to day role consists of taking that core software and configuring the particular client implementation on top of it. This includes master data configuration, implementing customisations to T-SQL stored procedures, developing inbound and outbound ETL processes, and building a SSAS cube.

We keen on software done properly, so we use Visual Studio 2013 database projects instead of SSMS. Everything is in Visual Studio Online for source code control and we have Continuous Integration gated check-ins to maintain the integrity of the code. We’re looking automated regression testing and Continuous Deployment as our next big milestones.

Culturally, we care about our customers and our people. We have long-standing relationships with our customers and it’s important our solution meets their needs and gives them an excellent end-user experience. Our people are the way we achieve that.

What’s On Offer:

  • Salary – We’ll pay market rate depending on experience so if you’re outside that range, let’s talk.
  • Annual bonus of up to 5%, dependent on company target and personal objectives.
  • Company pension contribution of 1%.
  • 25 days holiday a year.
  • Cycle to Work scheme.
  • Choice of laptop or desktop.
  • Ability to remote work one day a week after a year of service.
  • Weekly fruit boxes in the office to help you get your 5 a day.
  • Beer, wine and soft drinks regularly stocked in the fridge.
  • Office foosball table, and beer pong on Friday nights if you’re up for it.
  • Located in Vauxhall – convenient for Vauxhall/Waterloo/Waterloo East National Rail and Victoria/Jubilee/Bakerloo/Northern Line underground
  • Weekly fun events to get to know the team – ask us about Challenge Wednesday and the Big Office Quiz!
  • Hours are typically 9 to 5:30 – although it will get more intense around project go-live.
